10 11 Meeting Circle Part 2

The view here is facing north from the walking path that leads from the far north end of the parking area to the western ledge of Little Round Top, and to the statue of General Warren specifically.

How to Find Witness Trees 10 and 11

Both hickories, Witness Trees 10 and 11 each possess distinct, strongly curving trunks. Witness Tree 10 is on the north side of the gathering circle, while Witness Tree 11 stands between the circle and Sykes Avenue.

These two witness trees are the largest confirmed hickory witness trees on the battlefield here at Gettysburg.

Then-and-Now Comparisons

Once again, we see construction work at the summit of Little Round Top as the subject of the NPS’s photographer on this day in 1938. The distinctive curves of Witness Trees 10 and 11 make them easy to pick out in both the old and modern-day images. Label “A” marks the tablet for General Stephen Weed’s 3rd Brigade.

It is always a joy to see all the vintage cars being captured in the old photographs of Gettysburg National Military Park. Note that traffic flowed in both directions in the 1930s.
